Spotted Dog Fly Fishing Guides

Chachi (Charles) Avirett
Head Guide & Owner

Chachi grew up in south Georgia but has been in Tennessee for the last two decades. He is the main engine behind Spotted Dog. Anyone who knows Chachi knows he is constantly passing along his knowledge on fly fishing, hunting, and conservation.

Despite his baby face and beardless appearance, he has over 4000 days guiding under his belt. He has guided backpacking, fly-fishing, and hunting trips in the Southeast and out West since 2003. He and his family currently reside outside Cleveland, Tennessee.

From Chachi:

“Our guides have an intimate knowledge of the local waters, and their dedication to client satisfaction is unwavering. Our main guide team is Chachi, Adam, Casey, Nathan, Cody Ashton, and Landon, but we also have a few part-time studs who fill in the gaps when we are busy and need extra help.

So why a spotted dog? We had dogs growing up and throughout college, but it wasn’t until I was into my guiding career a few years that I brought home my first English Setter. Hank was a special dog. He was always down for an adventure. He was humble, kind, and full of joy. He made my life and experiences more enjoyable with his adventurous attitude. Long before he passed, he became our logo and the mascot of our adventures.”

Cody Bain
Warm Water Specialist / Wade & Float Fishing Guide

Cody grew up in North Georgia and Southeast Tennessee fishing as many creeks and rivers as possible. He has been fly fishing for almost 20 years, working in conservation and environmental work for 15 years professionally, and in the fly fishing industry for close to 10 years.

From Tellico, Hiwassee, Ocoee, and Conasauga, down to Coosawattee Rivers, he has covered those rivers extensively. His “expertise” lies more within the warm water species, but I have many years of trout experience as well. He also does some of the best impersonations of famous people and will have you laughing and enjoying your time on the water with him every time.

Adam Reuss
Wade & Float Fly Fishing Guide

Adam is a North Carolina native, currently living in Tennessee. He has been guiding outdoor adventures off and on since 2003. He has 3 young adventurous boys and an amazing daughter so he understands the patience needed to educate beginners and seasoned anglers alike. His full-time job is as a youth pastor at a local church, but he’s out with clients as much as possible.

His specialty is throwing nymphs and streamers BUT Adam is a fantastic guide who has a knack for staying positive no matter the weather or fish count, as long as the boat is right-side up. He’s funny, charismatic, and always loaded with the best dad jokes you’ve ever heard. If you want to learn the basics and hang out with an incredible dude, book with Adam!

Whether chasing tarpon in the Keys or native brookies in the Smokies, Nathan’s love of fishing shines through in his dedication to clients. He is genuinely stoked about getting people onto fish. His favorite trips may be teaching new anglers to fly fish. Big fish or small, the stoke is real!

Casey Hayman

Casey grew up in Tennessee and Central America and currently resides in Ooltewah, TN with his wife and kids. He has spent his whole life in the outdoors between fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping, but his true passion is fly fishing.

Casey has fly fished throughout the country for many different species, but he loves chasing trout throughout the southeast more than anything. One of his true joys in life is passing along his knowledge and experience to help others fall in love with the sport of fly fishing.

He works full-time for YoungLife but has been drawn to the guide scene through his passion for people and fishing. He has just begun his journey as a guide but has regularly taught friends and family the skill of fly fishing up until this point.
